BORDER TERRIERS

I would like to thank the society for inviting me to judge at this group open show, and for the wonderful hospitality shown to me by the hard working committee. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for giving me the opportunity to go over their dogs and the sporting way in which they accepted my decisions. I was delighted with my entry, and had some lovely examples of the breed to judge. Thank you also to my very able steward Gill, who kept things running smoothly. All males were entire, temperaments were excellent, all exhibits were in fit condition and I was pleased to see so many exhibits with large teeth!

Puppy Dog (1-0)

1 - Read’s Roxambor Space Invader. Almost 12 months blue and tan, good head with short strong muzzle. Excellent scissor bite with big teeth. Nice reach of neck. Narrow, straight front with good bone standing on thick pads. Deep enough in brisket but spannable and ribbed well back. Good hind angulation with nicely set on tail. Thick pelt and harsh jacket with just enough ticking. Moved well and covered the ground with ease. Up to size for me and doesn’t want to grow on.

Junior Dog (2-0)

1- Hughes’ Bullet Tooth Tony. Almost 15 months grizzle and tan with excellent head and lovely keen expression. Another with nice, big teeth and correct scissor bite. Narrow throughout with level topline. Easily spanned. Good turn of stifle and well-muscled hindquarters. Loose pelt with lovely harsh jacket. Nice for size and presented a balanced picture in profile. Moved with economy and drive. A lovely young dog who could easily do a day’s work. Pleased to award him Best Dog, Best Opposite Sex and Reserve Best of Breed.

2 – Roxambor Space Invader

Post Graduate Dog (2-0)

1- Jordan & Smith’s Glebeheath Smash N’ Grab. 3 year old grizzle and tan with a typical otter head, strong muzzle with correct bite. Keen expression. Good for size, straight, narrow front with good bone. Level topline and good tailset, easily spanned with a thick, loose pelt and harsh jacket. Well-muscled, moved well. Another who is fit for function and pushed hard for best dog.

2-Read’s Roxambor Magical Timepiece. 22 months grizzle and tan, typical head with nice expression, a little narrower in muzzle than 1.Correct bite. Slightly heavy in ear. Straight front, good topline and tailset. Spannable, slightly longer coupled than 1. Pelt and coat ok. Moved well. Shown in fit condition, just preferred the size of 1.

Open Dog (6-4)

1- Read’s Chintaku Boris At Roxambor. 4 and a half years grizzle and tan. Typical head with correct scissor bite. Narrow front with enough bone and good reach of neck. Spannable with good pelt and lovely harsh jacket. Another shown in fit condition. Moved well both ways.

2- Stevens’ Cobstoneway Ocean Sunrise. 4 year old blue and tan with strong otter head, keen expression and good scissor bite. Narrow, gun barrel straight front, good layback of shoulder. Spannable. Excellent pelt with harshest of coats with correct ticking. Moved well. A lovely dog but up to size and just a little bit too much of him for me.

Puppy Bitch (2-1)

1 - Read’s Roxambor Triple Step. Almost 12 months old grizzle and tan. Made her handler work hard today! Feminine head which still needs to fully mature, nice expression. Good scissor bite. Narrow throughout with good, straight front and enough bone. Nice reach of neck with good layback of shoulder. Spanned easily, ribbed well back. Level topline and correct tailset. Excellent, harsh coat. Very unsettled on the move, but she moved much better in her second class. When settled she showed me enough sound movement, reach and drive for me to be able to see what she can do when she wants to! Preferred her for size over her litter mate, and her movement settled just enough for me to award her Best Puppy In Breed.

Junior Bitch (1-0)

1- Roxambor Triple Step

Post Graduate Bitch (4-1)

1- Stevens’ Cobstoneway Love Song. 2 year old grizzle and tan that I have admired from the ringside. Pleased to get hands on! Best of heads, strong but feminine with strong muzzle and lovely expression. Excellent scissor bite. Good for bone with narrow, straight front, tight feet with thick pads. Spanned easily, with good length of rib. Well-muscled hind quarters with good turn of stifle. Pleasing topline and tailset. Excellent loose pelt and harsh jacket. Just right for size. Moved with purpose. A sound, honest bitch that would work all day long. Delighted to award her Best Bitch and Best of Breed.

2 – Read’s Rosie Amber Rose At Roxambor. 2 and a half years grizzle and tan. Typical head with good bite, slightly narrower muzzle than 1. Easily spanned, with good hindquarters. Well set on carroty tail with ok pelt and jacket. Moved well both ways. Just preferred the overall picture over 3 on the day.

3-Jones’ Rhozzum Gemstone At Otterholme. 2 and a half years grizzle and tan. Lovely for size with feminine head, not quite the strength of muzzle of 1 and 2. Correct scissor bite. Good shoulders and rib, spanned well. Good topline and tailset, would prefer a slightly shorter tail. Thick pelt and excellent tweedy, harsh coat, one of the best of the day. Moved well. Close decision and could change places with 2 on another day.

Open Bitch (3-2)

1-Read’s Atanasova Lady Sofiya At Roxambor. 4 year old grizzle and tan. Typical ottery head with lovely expression and correct bite. Narrow throughout and easily spanned. Excellent hindquarters, well-muscled and in fit condition. Nice for size with decent pelt and jacket. Good topline and carroty tail. Moved ok. Another nice bitch who could do the job.
